23:22 - 10/08/2006 - Summer Update and Exam Results
It's been pretty long time since I updated this site, it always suffers over summer, generally either because I actually have other things to do, or just the fact that the heat makes me even lazier than normal. More of the former this summer I'm happy to say. I'm sure it'll start receiving more updates once the autumn weather starts taking hold though.
Been going to the gym 4 days a week with Max since I've been back home and I'm quite pleased with my progress, although I'm sure technically I could be going quicker, I'm fairly happy to take a relaxed pase with weights / going to the gym to make sure it doesn't dominate my life. I have a tendency to do things slightly obsessively once I set my mind to something, although that's quite often just for want of something to do. Hopefully I'll have some holiday pictures to share once I come back from Italy, though I might have to cut out Max so I don't look like a shrimp.
Got my results through earlier this month and I'm glad to say the slight panic I was having about them, which to be honest is fairly unusual for me, was unfounded. At least if I had reason to worry my frantic revision and general jammyness got me through. My break down of marks for the year went as follows:
Electromagnetism & Optics : 70%
Electrons in Solids & App of Quantum Mechanics : 67%
Laboratory II : 78%
Mathematical Methods : 81%
Mathematics, Stats of Measurement & Prof Skills : 81%
Quantum Mechanics : 87%
Thermodynamics & Statistical Physics : 72%
Year 1: 72.2%
Year 2: 76.5%
Overall: 75.1% (weighted aggregate 1st and 2nd year total)
I'm happy to have done better this year than last, if surprised. I was slightly disappointed with my mark in Thermodynamics and Stat Phys, but very happy with my mark in Maths Methods, and given that I didn't answer most of the ~15 mark question in the 'compulsory' section or anything but the first 2 parts of the main 20 mark question of the App QM exam that mark is pretty damn good too.
When I get back to London I might try and finally rewrite this site so the comment system is actually here, as opposed to on Livejournal. This may or may not mean I give the site a redesign, probably a new colour scheme at the least. This along with swallowing my pride and joining a Shotokan Karate club (not my style of Karate, but better than sitting around on my ass), getting a proper membership to the university gym and maybe finally actually doing some interesting physics.
