Blog - September 2006

23:31 - 23/09/2006 - Return to the Big Smoke

It's back to London tomorrow, which I'm really looking forward too, I much prefer deciding what and when to eat, as well as doing all my own washing (no honestly, really I do prefer doing it myself), and also I can get back to working out properly. I've shamelessly played about 50 hours of World of Warcraft in the last week or so, but I really had nothing else to do, what with no car and my weights bench in london. I've managed to not play any today so it's fairly safe to assume I'm not going to go back to being addicted to it like in my first year of uni but that it has simply served it's purpose, to provide entertainment when I've nothing better to do.

I generally don't comment much on current affairs in my blog but I was glad to see on the news today that Richard Hammond had got up and taken his first steps after his 300 mph crash. Also it made me wonder how close he and Jeremy Clarkson must be, as reportedly Jeremy was there at 3am on the third day of Richard being hospital when Richard first woke up after the crash, suggesting he'd hardly left his side, so what a great friend.

On to politics, Tony Blair has been getting even more stick than usual these past few weeks. Whilst I don't really have any strong political views as yet (I'm still forming them, though I seem most inclined to agree with the lim dems generally) I feel the need to defend Blair, he's been in office for ten years for a reason, he's a damn good PM. All this shit about him being Bush's Bitch that is especially prolific on the internet is just that, I personally think he's done a lot to moderate Bush's actions, and to be perfectly honest you're not going to change much by going against the most powerful man in the world, you have to work with him, it's basic common sense.

On Iraq (and therefore still kind of on Tony Blair), whilst it would have been great if there could have been no war, think about what world relations would be like if the US had gone in on it's own (and without Blair's influence probably earlier), you think Europe or the UN would still be talking to the US, or at least on the same terms? I think the UK going in with the US has only made things better than they otherwise would have been. As for these people demanding the pulling out of our soldiers, do you really think that is going to make the situation better, or do you just not care about anything or anyone but your own?

Anyhow, enough of that, on to something more general, I was reading the editorial in this weeks New Scientist and something caught my eye that I completely agree with. It has to be considered that there are no strong links been exactly what you eat and your health, going on some super diet is not going to fix your health problems, getting the right diet is not the solution to the western world's self-inflicted health crisis. What would help, is to stop smoking, cut down on the alcohol and get more exercise.

14:14 - 15/09/2006 - Back from Spain

Ahh, back from an enjoyable week in spain, nicely tanned and missing a few brain cells. Now starts the few weeks where everyone else has gone back to uni or work and I have to decide if I want to stay on my own in shropshire, or go back to london and be on my own there instead. I think I'm probably going to stay one week here and then go back a week early and see if I can meet up with peeps that are in and around london.

Until then I'm probably going to play video games and drown myself in trance (whilst I enjoy a fair proportion of Max's taste in music, he doesn't really like mine methinks so I've got some cravings having spent near 2 weeks in his company). Might buy Advent Rising off steam as I personally think that human's being the galaxies most ancient and potentially powerful race is one that isn't done enough in sci-fi, it's generally "omg, those aliens are huge and can rip us to bits!!!!", yeah well anyway, I'll hopefully update with something more interesting soon. Wub to all.
