de_perseverance - work in progress
I've been working on this map for Counter-Strike: Source on and off since March 2006, and I have various screenshots over that period showing it's development, although none from beta 3 it would seem. My original motivation was to make map suitable for a large public server and so an industrial estate where you could access every building seemed like a good setting.
However whilst it was a lot of fun for a couple of plays in this format, the rather insane gameplay became tiring (you never knew where you were going to get shot from and people could hide in so many places!) so I have slowly shifted it towards more 'standard' play the ideal team size being somewhere between 5 and 8. It would seem players on large servers prefer maps made for smaller teams and just running into 8 players at once at the choke points instead of 2 or 3, not my idea of fun but part of being a level designer is accepting that you are making this for what other players like, not what you think they should. On the plus side it means that this map plays well for the kind of servers I prefer (18 players or less) too!
